One thing I can say anywhere is that running a private school is not only about teaching children. It is also about working with parents. I know you are spending a lot of time and money to look for and get new students. That is good, but I want you to know that it is not every parent that is good for your school. One or two difficult parents can give you and your teachers sleepless nights. They can discourage other parents. They can damage your school’s image.

They can even cause serious problems for you in the aspect of getting money to run your school. I am not saying you should reject every difficult parent, No! What I am saying is that you should know who such parents are, understand how they behave and put in place clear rules for handling them.

(1) The Parent Who Never Pays School Fees on Time.

This parent always has an excuse …. “I will pay next week.” “My salary has not come.” “I am expecting money.” Their promises never end. What they don’t know is that delaying the payment of school fees will affect the amount of money that is available for you to run your school. And such parents will make it difficult for you to pay your teachers buy learning materials and run your school smoothly.

(2) The Parent Who Thinks School Rules Do Not Apply to Them.

This type of parent wants special treatment for themselves every time. They want to pay whenever they like. They want their child to come to school whenever they like. They want the teacher to conduct a special class for their child, etc. They expect you to change or bend your school rules and regulations just to please them.

(3) The Parent Who Always Defends Their Child.

I am not saying you should not Listen to the parents of your students but remember that you are the school owner and you have the right to make your decisions. You must attract parents who believe in the value and respect your school’s policies.
